Sunderland vs Swansea City Match Analysis & Prediction
14/01/2023 6:00 pm
Sunderland can move back into the top six of the Championship table by beating Swansea City at home on Saturday. Meanwhile, Swansea would replace their visitors in sixth place by claiming an away victory.
Sunderland – promoted from League One via a victory over Wycombe Wanderers in the playoff final in May – have been steadied by Tony Mowbray following the departure of promotion-clinching manager Alex Neil to Stoke City in late August.
The Black Cats remain within striking distance of the playoffs despite losing 2-1 at home against AFC Wimbledon last time.
The side remains unbeaten in the FA Cup after an incredible comeback away to Shrewsbury Town.
This is with injury-time strikes from Ross Stewart and Luke O’Nien bringing them back from death after Matthew Pennington had scored what looked to be the winner for the hosts when he broke the deadlock in the 81st minute.
Meanwhile, Swansea has won just one of their last 10 league matches and dropped to 15th. Under Russell Martin, who took over the club in 2021.
They have made a strong start to the season, but results have remained patchy throughout his tenure.
Questions are being asked regarding the 37-year-old’s substance. However, when everything comes together, Swansea is undoubtedly one of the most attractive teams to watch across England’s top four leagues—as was most recently evident during their stunning 4-0 victory against Watford.
Sunderland vs. Swansea City Head to head

Sunderland Team News
Sunderland will be without several key players for the next few weeks, including Dennis Cirkin, Aji Alese, and Elliot Embleton. Lynden Gooch and Danny Batth are doubtful with hamstring injuries and calf strains, respectively.
The Black Cats’ leading goalscorer Ross Stewart will almost certainly return to the starting XI after scoring from the bench against Shrewsbury last weekend, with the onus on him to score goals in the absence of so many teammates.

Swansea City Team News
Swansea will have to cope without Liam Walsh, injured, and Michael Obafemi, who the manager has dropped.
Martin named a strong side for the cup match against Bristol City last weekend and is unlikely to make many changes. Harry Darling could return to the defence despite receiving a booking as a substitute in that match; however, he is also likely to be rested.
