A spot in the third knockout round of the EFL Cup is at stake at the bet365 Stadium on Tuesday night when Stoke City host Rotherham United.
Both teams came away empty-handed from their respective most recent matches, and they will be looking to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
Stoke City got their EFL Cup campaign off to a good start by geeting the better of West Bromwich Albion in a 2-1 victory three Tuesdays ago.
However, Alex Neil’s side have been beaten in two of their subsequent three league matches and have slipped down to ninth in the Championship table, three points adrift of the last playoff spot.
Off the back of three straight home victories by a combined score of 7-2, the Potters are flying in front of their fans at the moment and will be expected to turn on the style once again.
Rotherham overcame Morecambe on penalties in the EFL Cup first round when the sides met at the Aesseal New York Stadium on August 8.
However, that is their only win in five matches across all competitions this season, and they suffered a second successive league defeat on Saturday, slipping down to 21st in the Championship standings as a result.
Winless in their last 16 competitive encounters on their travels, Rotherham have work to do in their quest to avoid another fruitless game on the road.
Stoke City vs. Rotherham United Head to head
In the 16 previous meetings between these two teams, Stoke City have claimed four victories while Rotherham have won six, and they have drawn in six. Rotherham have scored 26 goals and conceded 22 in the process.
