St Polten Women vs Slavia Prague Women Match Analysis & Prediction
08/12/2022 11:00 pm
After claiming a narrow 1-0 victory over Slavia Prague Women in November, St Polten Women will be looking to record another win when the two sides meet at NV Arena on Thursday.
St Polten, who occupy third place, are currently four points adrift of the top two in their Women’s Champions League group, while the visitors are yet to pick up a point.
After going through the qualifying stages, St Polten were given a rude awakening when they were beaten 4-0 by Wolfsburg on Thursday.
They then seemed to be on course to take all three points against Roma when they took a two-goal lead, but the Italian side fought back to win 4-3.
St Polten’s away encounter with Slavia Prague on matchday three looked to be heading towards a goalless draw, until Maria Mikolajova scored a 91st-minute winner to snatch all three points for the Austrian side.
That result proved to be a fourth successive victory across all competitions for St Polten, who have not played since defeating the Czech Republic side two weeks ago.
If they are to stand any chance of closing the four-point gap to the top two, they they will need to claim another victory on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Slavia Prague’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages are all but over after failing to pick up a single point from their three group matches.
They suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Roma in their first group game before losing 2-0 in their home match against Wolfsburg on matchday two.
Slavia Prague were just minutes away from playing out a draw with Thursday’s hosts, but the narrow defeat leaves them bottom of the group.
Although they are unlikely to progress to the knockout rounds, Slavia Prague will see this contest as their best chance to pick up a point over their final three group matches.
If they are to avoid a fourth successive defeat in the Champions League, they they will need to improve upon Friday’s performance, which resulted in a 2-1 defeat to Slovan Liberec in the Czech First League.
