St Mirren vs Dundee Match Analysis & Prediction

07/02/2024 10:45 pm

St Mirren will play host to Dundee at the SMISA Stadium on Wednesday night for a crucial contest in the battle for top-half spots in the Scottish Premiership standings.
Following their victory at the weekend, the hosts sit six points ahead of their sixth-placed visitors having playing two games more in the league.
St Mirren head into the weekend looking to crack the top four in the Scottish Premiership, having improved their standing with a return to winning ways.
After enjoying an impressive start to the Premiership campaign, Stephen Robinson’s side have failed to hit similar heights since the beginning of October, with their final 14 games of 2023 producing just 14 points and three wins.
The Saints then faced a tough start to 2024, with successive encounters with title-chasing Celtic and Rangers ending in 3-0 and 1-0 defeats respectively, before they most recently set out to secure their first points of the New Year in a trip to Edinburgh to face Hibernian.
St Mirren would succeed in doing so in style, claiming a 3-0 victory in the capital as Alex Gogic, Greg Kiltie and Mikael Mandron all scored goals in the first half in an impressive display.
Having moved six points clear of their visitors and Hibernian in the battle for a top-half finish before the division splits, St Mirren will now bid to make it back-to-back league wins for the first time since September with the chance to leapfrog fourth-placed Kilmarnock.
Meanwhile, Dundee will be looking to narrow that gap after suffering a setback in the top-half battle at the weekend.
Dundee have enjoyed a creditable Premiership campaign so far, currently occupying sixth position with 26 points on the board from their first 22 matches.
The Dee have seen a slight dip in form amidst a tough run of fixtures since Christmas, firstly suffering defeats to Celtic and third-placed Hearts either side of a draw away at Kilmarnock.
Dundee would then beat bottom-placed Livingston 4-1, before taking a point from a 1-1 draw away at Aberdeen following Lee Ashcroft’s equaliser, and most recently meeting Hearts again and suffering another 3-2 defeat.
Tony Docherty’s side now sit six points behind their fifth-placed hosts with two games in hand, and they will set out to regain ground before playing their additional matches with a victory on the road on Wednesday.
