Sporting Lisbon vs Santa Clara Match Analysis & Prediction
30/11/2024 11:30 pm
Sporting Lisbon will be looking to bounce back from their midweek Champions League disappointment when they host Santa Clara at Estadio Jose Alvalade in Saturday’s Primeira Liga encounter.
Joao Pereira’s side, thrashed 5-1 by Arsenal on home soil in Europe, seek to continue their unblemished league start against their fourth-placed opponents.
The Lions have not dropped league points in front of their supporters since Benfica held them to a 2-2 draw in May 2023, a statistic they aim to extend on Saturday.
Pereira already tasted success in his opening game as first-team manager in the Taca de Portugal win over Amarante (6-0), and a similar outcome against Santa Clara will be what the doctor orderes for the new manager.
It will be interesting to see if high-flying Santa Clara halt Sporting’s 22-game Liga winning run at the Jose Alvalade despite suffering three successive away defeat in the league against Benfica (4-1), Moreirense (1-0) and Nacional (2-0).
Those away defeats followed back-to-back away wins after regaining promotion, but Vasco Matos’ side have been brought back down to earth with recent results.
With Braga (20 points) a point adrift of the team in fourth, the promoted side could slip to fifth if the drop points to the leaders and their closest challengers take care of business against 11th-placed Gil Vicente.
Sporting Lisbon vs. Santa Clara Head to head
