Sporting Lisbon vs Maritimo Match Analysis & Prediction
13/12/2022 11:45 pm

Sporting Lisbon will be looking to maintain their perfect record in the Taca da Liga when they play host to Maritimo at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, O Maior das Ilhas have lost their opening two matches of the cup campaign and will set out to end a run of four successive matches without a victory across all competitions.
Sporting Lisbon could not have hoped for a better start to their Taca da Liga title defence as they currently sit top of Group B after collecting six points from the opening two matches.
Ruben Amorim’s side began their campaign with a 6-0 home victory over Farense on November 30, when strikes from Pedro Goncalves, Arthur Gomes, Mateus Fernandes, Marcus Edwards and a brace from Paulinho condemned the Segunda Liga side to defeat.
The Leoes backed up their opening-day victory with another show of class a week later when they claimed a 2-0 victory over Rio Ave at the Estadio dos Arcos through a 62nd-minute goal from Goncalo Inacio and Emmanuel Boateng’s 73rd-minute own goal.
They have now won each of their last four matches across all competitions, including successive victories over Vitoria de Guimaraes and Famalicao in the Primeira Liga, where they are currently fourth in the league standings.
Midway through the 2022-23 campaign, Maritimo find themselves struggling for points at the bottom of the Primeira Liga table and also on the verge of a sixth group-stage exit since reaching the 2015-16 final.
Joao Henriques’ side failed to get their cup campaign back on track last Wednesday when they suffered a 2-0 defea to Farense through a brace from Brazilian forward Pedro Henrique.
Prior to that, Maritimo lost 1-0 to Vitoria de Guimaraes in their final league match before the World Cup break on November 13, before a similar 1-0 loss at the hands of Rio Ave in their Taca da Liga opener three weeks later.
O Maior das Ilhas, who have now picked up one draw and lost three of their last four matches across all competitions, are currently 17th in the league table, five points adrift of Famalicao just outside the relegation zone.
While Maritimo will be keen to end their winless run, next up is the tough test of facing a Sporting Lisbon side who are unbeaten in 18 of the last 20 encounters between the sides, claiming 13 victories and five draws since August 2010.
Sporting Lisbon vs. Maritimo Head to head
These two teams have previously met on 64 occasions across all competitions, where Sporting have claimed 45 victories while Maritimo have won nine, and they have drawn in 10. Maritimo have scored 46 goals and conceded 125. In their last five meeting, Sporting have won three, Maritimo one with one draw.

Sporting Lisbon Team News
Jose Marsa has been rock-solid at the heart of the back three in the two cup matches and we expect him to retain his starting role for Sporting Lisbon, alongside Matheus Reis and Inacio.
Paulinho should be joined in the final third by Edwards and Francisco Trincao, but Daniel Braganca and Luis Neto are absent.

Maritimo Team News
Maritimo will be without Venezuelan forward Jesus Ramirez, who is set to serve the second of his three-game suspension for picking up a straight red card against Rio Ave on December 1.
In his absence, Percy Liza should lead the attack once again, while Matheus Costa and Zainadine Junior should form centre-back pairing once again.
