In their second of three successive FA Cup matches, Southampton will welcome Blackpool to St Mary’s Stadium for the fourth round on Saturday afternoon. The Saints battled past Crystal Palace in the third round, while Blackpool thumped Nottingham Forest.
Southampton can reach the EFL Cup final and FA Cup fifth round in the next few days. If they win their next two matches, they will play Newcastle United in the semi-final of the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
The Saints will host the first leg at St Mary’s Stadium and could lead by one goal going into the second leg at St James’ Park on Tuesday. Southampton has already beaten some top-flight teams away from home when playing in cup tournaments.
Nottingham Forest made waves in the FA Cup in the 2021-22 season, beating then-champions Leicester City 4-1. But Blackpool inflicted an identical defeat on Forest one year later.
Marvin Ekpiteta scored the only goal of a relatively low-key first half. Still, Ian Poveda scored two goals after halftime before CJ Hamilton and Jerry Yates each added another as Blackpool cruised to a 6-1 victory.
That thrashing of Forest was in stark contrast to their dismal Championship affairs, as Mick McCarthy takes over a Blackpool side who are now winless in 10 consecutive second-tier matches after going down 2-0 to Watford in their most recent contest on January 14.
Southampton vs. Blackpool Head to head

Blackpool Team News
Meanwhile, Blackpool manager McCarthy cannot use the cup-tied Bez Lubala or Owen Dale for Saturday’s match. The rest of his squad is healthy for the most part, with only goalkeeper Rhys Williams recalled to Liverpool and defender Ekpiteta coming off with a hamstring issue against Watford as injury concerns. However, Leeds United loanee Ian Poveda should be available again following a groin problem.
