Sheffield Wednesday vs Mansfield Town Match Analysis & Prediction

29/08/2023 9:45 pm

Mansfield Town make the trip to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night, in the second round of the EFL Cup.
At this early stage in the season, the hosts are bottom of the Championship table, while the visitors are seventh in League Two.
New Sheffield Wednesday manager Xisco Munoz – who replaced Darren Moore this summer – has lost his first four matches in the Championship, but he may feel his side should have taken more, having lost three of those games by a one-goal margin.
The Owls will be looking for some respite in the EFL Cup, having reached this stage of the competition by beating League Two Stockport County in a penalty shootout, and they are set to face another side playing their trade two divisions below them.
Mansfield are unbeaten in the fourth tier, winning two and drawing three of their opening five matches, meaning they are currently sitting pretty in a playoff spot, just one point off the automatic promotion positions.
Nigel Clough’s side have won all their of their home matches across all competitions this season, including the game against Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup at the beginning of August to reach this stage of the competition.
Mansfield won 3-2 against potential promotion-rivals Stockport last time out, but they are set for a much tougher test on Tuesday.
