Sheffield United will look to extend their cushion at the top end of the Championship table when they host Stoke City at Bramall Lane on Saturday.
The Blades currently sit in the automatic promotion spots with a nine-point lead over third-placed Blackburn Rovers, while their visitors have dropped to 18th place, and both sides come into the contest on the back of FA Cup wins at the weekend.
Sheffield United have enjoyed a fine run of form since the beginning of December and currently sit in second place in the Championship, with an eight-point gap separating them from Leeds United, who are in sixth position.
Paul Heckingbottom’s side came out on top against Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic in their first two matches following the World Cup break before defeating Coventry City 3-1 at home on Boxing Day.
The Blades then claimed a narrow away win over Blackpool before drawing 1-1 against Queens Park Rangers on New Year’s Day – John Egan scoring a late equalizer for Sheffield United after Ilias Chair had given QPR the lead.
Stoke City will hope to return to winning in the Championship following a run of two defeats and a draw, as they welcome Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough side to the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.
The Potters sat 18th in the table with 25 points from 21 games and were unbeaten in four league games before losing 2-1 at home to Burnley last time out, with Josh Cullen’s goal on the hour mark proving only a consolation for Stoke.
