Sevilla vs Real Betis Match Analysis & Prediction

21/05/2023 10:00 pm

Fresh from securing their place in the Europa League final, Sevilla will resume their La Liga campaign on Sunday, hosting rivals Real Betis for the latest edition of the Seville derby.
The hosts are currently 10th in the table, one point behind seventh-placed Girona, while Real Betis sit comfortably in sixth place bidding to qualify for the Europa League.
Sevilla’s domestic troubles this season mean that they will have to win the Europa League to be present in the 2023-24 Champions League, with the club currently down in 10th place in the La Liga standings.
Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side are just one point behind seventh-placed Girona in the battle for a playoff spot in the Europa Conference League, but it would be some achievement for the team to claim a seventh Europa League crown and take their place in next season’s Champions League.
Mendilibar has overseen a huge turnaround since his appointment as head coach on March 21, winning eight of his 12 matches in charge, with Sevilla in relegation trouble when he was brought in.
Sevilla have now won six of their last eight league matches, including a 3-0 victory over Real Valladolid last time out, with all three goals coming in the second half of the game.
Real Betis will certainly be the fresher of the two teams, having not been in action since claiming a 3-1 victory over Rayo vallecano in the league on Monday.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side can still mathematically make the top four, but they are seven points behind fourth-placed Real Sociedad, so a lot would have to cange over the next couple of weeks.
The Green and Whites have been strong on their travels this season, picking up 24 points from 17 matches, and they will be travelling to a Sevilla side who have won just seven of their 17 home league matches in 2022-23.
Real Betis have not actually beaten Sevilla in La Liga since September 2018, but the points were shared in a 1-1 draw when the two sides met earlier this season.
Sevilla vs. Real Betis Head to head
In the 54 previous meetings between these two teams across all competitions, Sevilla have claimed 25 victories while Real Betis have won 11, and they have drawn in 18. Betis have scored 51 goals and conceded 82 in the process.
