Servette vs Basel Match Analysis & Prediction
11/08/2024 5:30 pm
Servette FC will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the new Swiss Super League season when they host FC Basel at Stade de Geneve on Sunday.
After a strong start to the campaign, which saw them win their opening three matches, including victories over Luzern and Young Boys, Servette suffered a setback against Lugano last time out.
Despite taking the lead, the Genevois conceded three late goals to lose 3-1 and slip to second in the table, level on points with Lugano but behind on goal difference.
However, there is some positivity to take from their midweek goalless draw with Sporting Braga in the first leg of their Europa League qualifying tie, as they bid to secure a spot in the group stage for the second time in their history.
Servette have an ongoing streak on home soil against Sunday’s opponents, winning four and drawing five in the last nine times they have hosted this fixture.
Meanwhile, Basel will be looking to build on their first league victory of the season, securing a 3-0 win over Grasshopper after losing the opening two games.
The result lifted them out of the relegation zone and up to eighth place, but they will be aware of the need to maintain consistency to climb further up the table.
Another win on Sunday could see Fabio Celestini’s side climb into the top half of the table if results elsewhere go in their favour, as they aim to close the gap on the league leaders in the pursuit of a first league title since 2016-17.

In the previous 64 meetings between these two teams, Servette have claimed 13 victories while Basel have won 33, and they have drawn in 18. Basel have scored 117 goals and conceded 73 in the process.
