Schalke 04 vs RB Leipzig Match Analysis & Prediction
24/01/2023 8:30 pm
Schalke 04 make a return to home comforts in the Bundesliga for the first time in 2023 when they play host to RB Leipzig at VELTINS-Arena on Tuesday.
While the hosts suffered a 3-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt upon their return to competitive action, Die Roten Bullen held Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw.
Schalke are the only team in the division yet to hit double figures in the points column – with nine from their 16 matches this season – and they occupy last place in the Bundesliga table, six adrift of the safety of 15th place before this Sunday’s contest between Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund.
Defeat to Frankfurt made it nine losses from 10 for Die Knappen in the Bundesliga, with Thomas Reis trying yet failing to turn their fortunes around in his earliest days in the hotseat.
There was much more for Leipzig faithful to celebrate in their first Friday back since the winter break, as leaders Bayern Munich were forced to settle for a point after being pegged back by Michael Rose’s in-form charges.
That draw with Bayern ended a six-game winning run for Leipzig across all competitions, but Rose’s side are firmly in the Champions League mix as they occupy fifth place in the standings, just one point behind Frankfurt, Freiburg and Union Berlin in the top four.
Now unbeaten in nine Bundesliga matches since losing 3-0 to Borussia Monchengladbach in September, Leipzig are out to make it three away wins in a row in the top flight this week, but the visitors are without a clean sheet on rival turf since April.
Schalke 04 vs. RB Leipzig Head to head
In the 10 previous meetings between these two sides, Schalke have claimed two victories while Leipzig have won six, and they have drawn in two. Leipzig have scored 20 goals and conceded eight in the process.
