Sassuolo vs Lazio Match Analysis & Prediction
15/01/2023 2:30 pm
After dropping two more points in the race for a top four place, Lazio will now be looking to return to winning ways at Sassuolo on Sunday.
While Biancocelesti arrive at the Mapei Stadium having failed to win since the World Cup break, their hosts have lost both Serie A matches so far this year.
Beaten by Sampdoria on their return to competitive action, Sassuolo came within a whisker of picking up their first point of 2023 in Florence last time out, but were ultimately undone at last.
Sassuolo’s slip down the table saw them occupy 16th place after 17 matches, and their current tally of 16 points is the second-lowest the club have posted at this stage of a Serie A campaign.
However, three of their league victories this season have come on home soil, and after having also won their last two encounters with Lazio in Emilia-Romagna, recent precedent is at least on their side ahead of Sunday’s contest.
A second-half slip-up at Lecce had seen Lazio welcome Empoli to Stadio Olimpico off the back of successive defeats either side of the winter break, and even a two-goal lead with goals from Felipe Anderson and Mattia Zaccagni did notprove enough to see off their Tuscan visitors.
Lazio slipped again as Empoli scored twice within the last 10 minutes to restrict their hosts to a single point, leaving Maurizio Sarri’s side fifth after 17 matches.
Seven of the 15 goals Lazio have conceded in Serie A all season have therefore come in their last three matches, and following defeats in their two most recent away games, they stand in danger of losing three straight away matches for the first time since mid-2021.
Sassuolo vs. Lazio Head to head
In the previous 19 meetings between these two sides, Sassuolo have claimed five victories while Lazio have won 10, and they have drawn in four. Lazio have scored 37 goals and conceded 26 in the process.

Sassuolo Team News
Sassuolo’s first-choice goalkeeper Andrea Consigli and star striker Andrea Pinamonti have both been ruled out through injury, potentially for the rest of the month.
Gianluca Pegolo will deputise for Consigli, while Agustin Alvarez is favourite to replace Pinamonti up front, with forward Gregoire Defrel providing another opion.

Lazio Team News
Lazio’s Elseid Hysaj will most likely be called upon to replace Manuel Lazzari at right-back as the latter misses out through suspension.
Despite their late implosion against Empoli, the visitors are expected to name a similar starting XI on Sunday, with Luis Alberto and Matias Vecino vying for one spot in midfield.
