Top meets bottom in Serie A as the relegation-threatened Salernitana welcome title-chasers AC Milan to Stadio Arechi for a crucial league encounter this Saturday night with kickoff at 22:45.
Salernitana have found things difficult in the top-flight and seem to be on their way back to the Serie B as the side sit at the foot of the table with 13 points collected from their 23 matches, two points behind Genoa who have played two matches more and are eight points adrift of safety.
Salernitana however, still have a chance of salvaging their campaign as with the side having at least played one match less than they fellow relegation fighters but that will mean that Stefano Colantuono’s side start putting some victories on the board.
They are coming off a four-match winless run the top flight recording back-to-back defeats to Lazio and Napoli before picking back-to-back draws against Spezia and Genoa. They did to hold on to the point against fellow relegation outfits with Federico Bonazzoli goal earning the point at Marassi.
The Granata will therefore be looking to return to winning ways this weekend as they aim at saving their season but in there way and the crucial three stands AC Milan who also come here desperately looking for the three points for a completely different reason.
Milan have had an impressive Serie A campaign this season with the club maintain the top three spots throughout the campaign and this month has been particularly kind to the leaders, who first overcame fierce city rivals Inter in the Derby della Madonnina overtaking them to the top spot in the league. They then followed that up with a sparkling 4-0 win against Lazio in quarter finals of the Coppa Italia, before overcoming Sampdoria with a 1-0 at home last weekend.
The Rossoneri have now recorded a four match unbeaten run across all competition, winning all their last three and lead the table with a point above Napoli and two above city rivals Inter Milan and will be looking to extend their winning streak as they aim at keeping their status in the league standings.
Milan will fancy their chances to claim a routine victory against a struggling side that they are yet to lose to and already beat them 2-0 in their reverse fixture earlier this season. They also possess a much stronger squad than their hosts.
