Roma will be looking for their third consecutive win when they welcome Torino to Stadio Olimpico for their 14th Serie A fixture on Sunday night with kickoff at 20:00.
Roma managed to bounce back from a period of instability with a 2-0 win against Genoa at Stadio Luigi Ferraris last weekend thanks to a brace from a rookie teenager Felix Afena Gyan, who became the 12th youngest player to score for the Giallorossi in their entire Serie A history. Prior to the win Roma had only claimed one win from their six league matches and were coming off back-to-back defeats from Milan (1-2) and newly promoted Venezia (3-2).
They then followed that win with another victory on Thursday when they strongly thrashed Lugansk 4-0 in Europa Conference League. The win helped Jose Mourinho’s side to move on from their humbling experience against Bodo/Gimit who trashed them 6-0 in this competition, while securing at least a top finish for Roma, but still may need to go through playoffs to make it to the last 16.
Roma currently occupy the fifth spot in the Serie A standings on 22 points just three points adrift off the Champions League spots. Therefore, Roma will be looking to maintain their new momentum going and Mourinho will expect his side to be confident.
Meanwhile Torino also bounced back from their 1-0 defeat to Spezia before the international break, with a 2-1 win over Udinese last weekend. Ivan Juric’s side has been recording inconsistent run in the recent weeks, with the alternating between home wins and away defeats in their last six Serie A matches, meaning that they come into the match having lost three away latch in a row.
However Ivan will hope that his side can find confidence in their last weekend victory and build n their strong start to the campaign. The club will want to break to into the top half as they currently sit in the 11th spot on 17 points just five points behind fifth-placed Roma.
