Rio Ave vs Sporting Lisbon Match Analysis & Prediction

07/02/2023 12:15 am

Seeking to end their five-game winless run, Rio Ave play host to Sporting Lisbon at the Estadio do Rio Ave Futebol Clube as round 19 of the Primeira Liga comes to an end on Tuesday Morning.
Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim’s side enter the contest looking to secure a fourth consecutive victory over the hosts and continue their race for a Champions League spot.
Rio Ave failed to move into the top half of the Primeira Liga standings as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Vizela at the Estadio do FC Vizela last Sunday.
Luis Freire’s side have now failed to win any of their last five matches, posting three draws and losing twice since a 2-1 victory over Segunda Liga side Farense in Group B of the Taca da Liga.
Vilacondenses have now recorded five wins, six draws and seven losses from their 18 matches to collect 21 points and sit 11th in the Primeira Liga table, level on points with 12th-placed Famalicao.
Sporting Lisbon turned in a performance of the highest quality as the beat second-placed Braga 5-0 when the sides met at the Estadio Alvalade on Wednesday.
Prior to that, Amorim’s side were denied a fifth Taca da Liga title on January 28, when they were beaten 2-0 by Porto through goals either half from Stephen Eustaquio and Ivan Marcano.
Sporting Lisbon head into the contest unbeaten in all but one of their last seven Primeira Liga matches, posting five wins and one draw, with a 1-0 defeat to Maritimo on January 8 being the exception.
With 35 points from 18 matches, Amorim’s side are currently fourth in the league standings, seven points adrift of third-placed Porto in the Champions League qualifying playoff spot.
