Real Madrid vs Valencia Match Analysis & Prediction

02/02/2023 11:00 pm

Real Madrid will be looking to return to winning ways when they play host to managerless Valencia at the Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday night.
The hosts are one of the only two La Liga clubs who are tey to lose on home soil so far this season, while their visitors have only won one of their eight league away matches.
Los Blancos have suffered a major blow in their bid to retain the La Liga title after dropping points in four of their last seven league matches.
A 2-1 away defeat to Villarreal in their first league game of 2023 was followed by a 2-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao, but Real Madrid were then forced to settle for a goalless draw at home to Real Sociedad last weekend.
Real Madrid currently sit five points behind league leaders Barcelona, but they could find themselves eight points adrift before kickoff on Thursday should the Catalan giants beat Real Betis on Wednesday.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have already beaten Valencia this month, although on penalties with a 4-3 victory in the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
After just seven months in charge at the Mestalla, Valencia confirmed on Monday that head coach Gennaro Gattuso has left the club on mutual consent.
He departed the club after just 22 matches in charge, less than half as many as his predecessor Jose Bordalas and six fewer than Gary Neville during his brief spell back in 2016.
Gattuso had only won two matches out of eight across all competitions since the World Cup break, losing three of his last four league games including Sunday’s 1-0 away defeat against Real Valladolid – Cyle Larin scoring a 90th-minute winner.
As a result, Valencia have slipped to 14th in the La Liga table and they are one of four teams with 20 points, sitting just one point above the relegation zone, although with a game in hand.
Voro Gonzalez has taken the reins as interim manager for the seventh time in his career, and the 59-year-old is tasked with lead his Valencia side to an unlikely victory against a Real Madrid side whom they have beaten just twice in their last 13 meetings across all competitions.
Real Madrid vs. Valencia Head to head
In the 64 previous meetings between these two sides across all competitions, Real Madrid have claimed 36 victories while Valencia have won 14, and they have drawn in 14. Valencia have scored 82 goals and conceded 127 in the process.
