Reading vs Rotherham United Match Analysis & Prediction

14/02/2023 11:00 pm

Reading will be looking to get back to winning ways when they play host to Rotherham United in the Championship on Tuesday night at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
While the Royals suffered defeat away at Sunderland at the weekend, Rotherham drew a third straight game after a stalemate with Blackpool.
Reading are tumbling down the Championship standings after a poor run of form to start 2023, with the Royals yet to pick up a victory in the new calender year in the second tier.
Paul Ince’s side now sit 18th in the second-tier standings having collected 38 points from 30 matches, a record that puts them in any immediate danger, but nevertheless their worrying form needs to be addressed in the coming weeks.
Injuries have not helped Reading’s chances of success over the past month, with the squad being stretched particularly in central areas, so much that centre-back Tom McIntyre was part of a midfield three last time out.
Meanwhile, Rotherham are now unbeaten in four matches in the Championship after a third straight draw on Saturday, with Bloomfield Road witnessing a goalless scoreline between the Seasiders and the Millers.
Keeping back-to-back clean sheets for only the third time this season will please head coach Matthew Taylor, but it will be victories that eventually keep Rotherham in the division if attained between now and May.
Rotherham currently sit in 20th place in the Championship table, possessing a comforting four-point buffer over Wigan Athletic who occupy the highest of the relegation spots.
The Millers have struggled to pose an attacking threat on their travels so far this season, scoring just nine times in 16 matches, fewer goals than any other side in the Championship on the road.
Reading vs. Rotherham United Head to head
In the 21 previous meetings between these two teams, Reading have claimed 10 victories while Rotherham have won four, and they have drawn in seven. Rotherham have scored 19 goals and conceded 27 in the process.

Reading Team News
Reading will remain without midfielder Mamadou Loum, as he serves the final match of his two-game suspension, meaning it could be a makeshift midfield for Ince once more.
The experience of Sam Hutchinson is being missed in the middle of the park, with the veteran expected back in late March after suffering an Achilles tendon injury against QPR last month.

Rotherham United Team News
Rotherham’s January signing Sean Morrison has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a thigh injury. The centre-back only managed two appearances after switching from Cardiff City.
Ben Wiles has not featured for the Milllers since Boxing Day and his absence in the midfield has been felt significantly, although he is hopeful of being available for selection at the end of this month.
