Rayo Vallecano vs Athletic Bilbao Match Analysis & Prediction
01/12/2024 8:30 pm
Athletic Bilbao will be looking to make it nine matches unbeaten across all competitions when they continue their La Liga campaign away to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
The visitors are currently fifth in the La Liga standings and just two points behind fourth-placed Villarreal, while Vallecano have dropped into 13th, with the capital club losing three of their last four matches in the top flight.
Rayo are on a disappointing run of form in the league losing three of their last four, including their last two against Las Palmas and Sevilla, failing to prevail in La Liga since a home game against Alaves on October 26.
The capital club are active in the Copa del Rey, having beaten Villamuriel in their 2024-25 opener at the end of October, and their campaign in that competition will continue away to Unionistas de Salamanca next week.
Inigo Perez’s side have picked up eight points from their six home league matches this season, while Athletic have collected eight points from their six La Liga matches on their travels.
Athletic claimed a 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad in the Basque derby last weekend, with Oihan Sancet scoring the only goal of the game in the 26th minute, and Ernesto Valverde’s side are unbeaten across all competitions since the start of October.
A record of six wins, five draws and three losses in La Liga this season has brought them 23 points, which is enough for fifth position in the table, just two points behind fourth-placed Villarreal.
