Rangers vs Ayr United Match Analysis & Prediction
10/02/2024 8:30 pm
Saturday’s Scottish FA Cup fifth-round will conclude with Ayr United travelling to the Ibrox Stadium to face Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.
The hosts will enter the contest off the back of a 2-1 league victory over Aberdeen, while the visitors suffered a 2-1 defeat to Dundee United in the Scottish Championship last time out.
Under Philippe Clement’s leadership, Rangers have experienced something of a resurgence, securing the League Cup for the first time in over a decade and currently mounting a serious challenge for the Premiership title alongside Celtic.
Rangers are currently just three points behind Celtic with a game in hand, and after their win over Aberdeen at the weekend, the Gers are now on a seven-game winning run across all competitions.
In this competition, Rangers beat Dumbarton 4-1 in the previous round and rattled in nine goals in their subsequent four league matches leading up to this game while only conceding two in that period.
Meanwhile, Ayr United saw their three-game unbeaten league run end last weekend when Dundee United staged an excellent second-half comeback to secure the points in a 2-1 victory at Somerset Park after going 1-0 down in the opening two minutes of that game.
That result marked their 11th league defeat of the season and left them in sixth position after 23 matches in the Scottish Championship, 11 points behind the top three teams and having played a game more than all the sides above them.
Ayr United’s away record does little to improve the outlook for their chances in this game, having only managed to win one of their last eight matches on the road across all competitions in regulation time.
