Racing Club vs Boca Juniors Match Analysis & Prediction
31/08/2023 3:30 am
After a closely-contested match last week, Racing Club and Boca Juniors will meet for a crucial second leg of their Copa Libertadores quarter-final at Estadio Presidente Juan Domingo Peron on Thursday.
The winners of this tie will go on to face either Palmeiras or Deportivo Pereira in the semi-final, athough the Brazilians do have a commanding lead in that fixture.
Having kept a clean sheet last week, Racing Club have put themselves in a good position and will relish the opportunity of knocking their local rivals out of the tournament after Boca edged them to the title last season.
Racing Club were far from convincing in the last round, where they lost the first leg against Atletico Nacional 4-2 but managed a 3-0 victory in their home leg, although the winning goal was an own goal by Juan Aguirre.
Fernando Gago’s side have avoided defeat in each of their last four matches against this opponent at this venue and will fancy their chances here in front of their home supporters.
Like their opponents, Boca Juniors’ qualification to this stage of the competition was far from straightforward, as they required penalties to overcome Nacional in the previous round after the tie ended 2-2.
Following last week’s match against this opponent, Boca Juniors were beaten 1-0 by Sarmiento, who finished the first phase of the Argentine Primera Division in 19th place, meaning they have gone over 180 minutes without scoring.
Jorge Almiron’s side did create the better chances last week and looked more likely to break the deadlock, but they will be the happier of these sides the longer this game remains level and will probably look to nick a late winner if they can.
Racing Club vs. Boca Juniors Head to head
In the 55 previous meetings between these two teams, Racing Club have claimed 19 victories while Boca Juniors have won 24, and they have drawn in 12. Boca Juniors have scored 78 goals and conceded 63 in the process.
