Preston vs Coventry City Match Analysis & Prediction

19/10/2024 2:30 pm

Looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Championship to three matches, Preston North End will welcome a struggling Coventry City side to Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.
The Lilywhites secured a respectable point at Turf Moor against Burnley prior to the international break, while the Sky Blues suffered a defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the East Midlands.
Following a winless September spell in the Championship, Preston collected a tally of four points from two matches in October before the international break, enjoying a three-goals win over Watford at Deepdale and a goalless draw with promotion favourites Burnley.
Despite the Clarets dominating possession in a hotly-contested Lancashire derby, Preston were able to secure a draw and in truth should have earned all three, with Emil Riis Jakobsen seeing a seemingly-legal goal ruled out for offside.
Collecting nine points from their opening nine league matches, Preston are currently occupying 19th position in the Championship standings, seven points behind sixth-placed Watford and just two ahead of Queens Park Rangers in the highest of the relegation spots.
Following a ninth-placed finish in the Championship and an FA Cup semi-final appearance last season, Coventry are currently in the second-tier trenches, winning just two of their first nine matches in the division during 2024-25, leaving them languishing in 20th position.
It appeared as if Coventry had turned a corner on the first day of October as they secured a three-goal win over Blackburn Rovers at the Coventry Building Society Arena, but the Sky Blues returned to losing ways four days later, with Sheffield Wednesday snatching three points in the East Midlands.
A shining light amid a difficult start for his side as a collective, Jack Rudoni scored the opener for Coventry last time out, but strikes either side of halftime from Djeidi Gassana and Shea Charles secured a comeback victory for the Owls.
Preston vs. Coventry City Head to head
In the previous 35 meetings between these two teams, Preston have claimed 20 victories while Coventry have won three, and they have drawn in 12. Coventry have scored 39 goals and conceded 66 in the process.
