Portsmouth vs Stevenage Match Analysis & Prediction
13/12/2022 10:00 pm
Portsmouth and Stevenage will battle it out for a place in the quarter-finals of the EFL Trophy when the two sides meet at Fratton Park on Tuesday.
The hosts saw a nine-game unbeaten run across all competitions come to an end in their defeat to Wycombe Wanderers, while Stevenage have avoided defeat in their last six competitive matches.
Although Portsmouth have lost just one of their previous 10 matches across all competitions, they have failed to win any of their last five league games.
After playing out four successive draws in League One, Pompey suffered a 2-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in their most recent game.
Danny Cowley’s side were due to return to action on Saturday, but their away encounter with Accrington Stanley was postponed, which has allowed Portspmouth to focus on Tuesday’s last-16 tie in the EFL Trophy.
Portsmouth faced Ipswich Town in the round of 32 after they finished second in the group stage, and they managed to claim a 2-0 victory through goals from Dane Scarlett and Zach Swanson.
Pompey have avoided defeat in all of their 12 competitive home matches this season, although five of their last six home games have finished all square after 90 minutes.
Stevenage, meanwhile, are unbeaten in six matches across all competitions, and they currently sit in second place in League Two.
They have lost just one of their last 12 league matches, although they had to settle for a point on Saturday when they played out a goalless draw with Mansfield Town.
As they turn their attention to this cup game, Stevenage will look to continue their fine form in the EFL Trophy after winning all four matches in the competitions this season.
In the last round, strikes from David Amoo, Daniel Sweeney and Arthur Read helped Stevenage secure a 3-2 victory over Arsenal U21.
With Steve Evans’ side unbeaten in their previous seven away matches across all competitions, they will believe that at the very least they can take the last-16 tie to penalties.
