Portsmouth vs Peterborough United Match Analysis & Prediction

29/08/2023 9:45 pm

Portsmouth will play host to fellow League One side Peterborough United at Fratton Park for Tuesday night’s EFL Cup tie.
The hosts secured a 3-1 victory over Forest Green Rovers to reach the second round, while Posh held their nerve to overcome Swindon Town on penalties.
Since suffering a defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in March, Portsmouth have embarked on an impressive 18-game unbeaten run across all competitions.
Portsmouth have been eliminated in the second round of the EFL Cup in two of the last three campaigns, including last season when they were beaten 3-2 by Newport County.
If they can progress to the next stage on Tuesday, it would represent the first time that they have reached the third round since the 2019-20 season.
Meanwhile, Peterborough began the season with a positive run of results, recording three successive league victories, while overcoming Swindon on penalties to move into the second round of the EFL Cup.
However, Posh were stopped in their tracks by a 1-0 defeat to Northampton, and they were unable to bounce back in Saturday’s home encounter with Derby County, where they lost 4-2.
Darren Ferguson’s side are competing in the second round of the EFL Cup for the second straight season, and they are looking to reach the third round for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign.
