Portland Timbers vs SJ Earthquakes Match Analysis & Prediction

21/09/2023 5:30 am

Portland Timbers will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to five matches when they host San Jose Earthquakes at Prividence Park on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, the visitors will be seeking to claim successive victories for the third time in MLS this season after beating Real Salt Lake at the weekend.
Portland Timbers began their promising run of form with a 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake, before they came from two goals down to take a point off Seattle Sounders.
They returned to winning ways in their home game against Los Angeles FC prior to Monday’s home encounter with Austin FC, where goals from Felipe Mora and Evander giuded Portland to a narrow 2-1 away victory.
After recording successive MLS victories for the first time this season, the Timbers head into Thursday’s contest in the final playoff position in the Western Conference.
Portland have won their last three home matches against San Jose, including July’s Leagues Cup meeting, which produced a 2-0 scoreline.
San Jose will travel to Portland in a buoyant mood after they ended a four-game winless run with a narrow 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake.
With five matches to play in the regular season, San Jose are in seventh position and five points clear of those lurking just outside the playoffs.
As a result, SJ Earthquakes know a victory could go a long way to securing them a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2020.
However, having won just two of their 14 MLS away matches in 2023, san Jose may view a draw as a more realistic aim for the midweek trip to Portland.
Portland Timbers vs. SJ Earthquakes Head to head
In the 36 previous meetings between these two teams, Portland have claimed 19 victories while San Jose have won seven, and they have drawn in 10. San Jose have scored 34 goals and conceded 58 in the process.
