Peterborough United vs Chelsea U21 Match Analysis & Prediction
22/11/2022 10:30 pm
Peterborough United take on Chelsea U21 at the Weston Homes Stadium on Tuesday, with a spot in the third round of the EFL Trophy at stake.
Heading into this knockout game, Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 10 matches across all competitions, while their opponents have lost two of their previous three, losing 1-0 to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
Some late heroics in their final group stage match proved decisive as Peterborough equalised in the 83rd minute against Wycombe Wanderers, beating them for second place in the group on goal difference.
Grant McCann is in his third stint as manager of Peterborough, and consistency from one game to another has been a problem lately, with the Posh failing to win consecutive matches since late October.
Despite those inconsistencies in recent occasions, Peterborough have found a way to contend for the League One title often, finishing in the top seven or higher over the past four domestic campaigns.
Meanwhile, some fine reactions in the group stage enabled Chelsea to claim victory in their final two matches, as they emerged Group G winners.
Mark Robinson’s side failed to score a single first-half goal in the group stage of this competition, conceding within the opening 10 minutes of their first two games.
Since a 2-1 victory over Oxford United early in October, Chelsea have been much sharper in front of goal, scoring three times in four of their last five matches.
The Blues have not scored a goal in the opening half since drawing Leicester City U21 at the beginning of October, though they have not conceded a first-half strike in their last four encounters.
Chelsea have made it to the second round of this competition in two successive campaigns, beating Forest Green Rovers on penalties last season before losing to the Arsenal U21 in the next round.
