Partizan vs Sheriff Tiraspol Match Analysis & Prediction

23/02/2023 8:45 pm

Partizan play host to Sheriff Tiraspol at the Partizan Stadium on Thursday night in the second leg of their Europa Conference League knockout-round playoff tie.
The Serbian side claimed a 1-0 victory in Moldova last week, so they come into this week’s fixture in a very strong position to progress to the last 16.
Partizan are in good form on the Serbian SuperLiga this season, currently sitting in second place, but the league title is likely out of reach given that they trail league leaders Red Star Belgrade by 11 points.
Gordan Petric’s side came through a fairly tough group stage to reach this stage of the competition, finishing level on points with group winners Nice, while they were also able to record an impressive 1-0 victory away at Bundesliga side FC Koln.
In their last game, Partizan did not make it easy for themselves against Spartak Subotica, but they managed to collect all three points in the SuperLiga through a brace from Ricardo Gomes.
In the first leg against Sheriff, where Igor Vujacic saw red in the second half, Partizan were able to close out an important 1-0 away victory, despite the hosts dominating the majority of the possession.
Meanwhile, Sheriff finished top of the Moldoban Super Liga as expected, and they have now progressed to the Championship group, along with five other teams, with fixtures set to resume in the middle of March.
Roberto Bordin’s side have not been inleague action since the beginning of November, so they may be lacking in match fitness, having only played two friendly games to warm up for the first leg of this tie.
Having lost the first leg, a huge effort will be needed from Sheriff out in Belgrade, but they have history for punching above their weight in Europe, having beaten Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the Champions League last season.
