Paris Saint-Germain vs Angers Match Analysis & Prediction
11/01/2023 11:00 pm
Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to return to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they face basement side Angers at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.
While the hosts progressed in the Coupe de France through a 3-1 victory over Chateauroux at the weekend, Angers advanced to the next round after seeing off Strasbourg on penalties.
Without Lionel Messi and suspended Neymar, psg saw their power wane at the home of Lens, who made the Ligue 1 title race a little more interesting on New Year’s Day.
A 3-1 defeat ended PSG’s unbeaten start to the Ligue 1 season after 17 matches, but they were handed a golden chance to bounce back against Chateauroux in the Coupe de France third round and did so through a 3-1 victory.
Christophe Galtier’s side have taken 22 points from a possible 24 at home this season and are on a six-game domestic winning streak at the Parc des Princes, scoring 11 goals in their previous three games in the capital.
Amid their struggles to drag themselves away from relegation danger, Angers did at least manage to join PSG in the draw for the fourth round of the Coupe de France, as Strasbourg’s Gerzino Nyamsi and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde both fluffled their lines from the penalty spot after a goalless draw.
However, attention quickly turns back to the fight for survival in Ligue 1, with defeat to Lorient leaving them in 20th place with just eight points to their name from 17 matches, seven adrift of the safety of 16th place.
Angers travel to the Parc des Princes having failed to take a single point against a top-half team this year, with only Auxerre also having suffered an identical fate.
Paris Saint-Germain vs. Angers Head to head
In the previous 16 meetings between these two teams, PSG have claimed 15 victories while they have drawn once. Angers have scored just seven goals and conceded 46 in the process.
