07/05/2023 10:30 pm

After ending their three-game losing run last time out, Pacos de Ferreira will seek to make it back-to-back victories when they host Sporting Lisbon on Sunday, as they resume their late push from the Primeira Liga danger zone.
Meanwhile, the visitors are on course to make it three successive league victories this weekend and continue their race for a Champions League ticket.
With 20 points from 30 matches, Pacos Ferreira currently sit four points above bottom-placed Santa Clara and two points adrift of 16th-placed Maritimo in the relegation playoff spot.
However, Cesar Peixoto’s side did manage to secure a crucial victory away at Vizela last weekend, through goals from Nicolas Gaitan and Paulo Bernardo, after previously falling to defeats against Famalicao, Maritimo and Porto, picking up just two points from their five previous matches since a 1-0 victoriy over Santa Clara on March 11.
That win ended a three-game losing streak for Pacos Ferreira, but they are now met with the challenge of facing a Sporting Lisbon side who have the fourth-best away record in the division.
Sporting claimed a 2-1 victory over Famalicao last time out, courtesy of goals from Hidemasa Morita and Ricardo Esgaio before Sebastian Coates’ own goal made it a nervy finale.
After Sunday’s victory, Sporting are now unbeaten in 10 league matches, with their last defeat coming against rivals Porto on February 12, recording eight wins and two draws in that time.
With 64 points from 30 matches, the Lions are currently fourth in the Primeira Liga standings, seven points behind third-placed Braga in the final Champions League qualifying playoff spot.
Ruben Amorim will be confident his side can keep the pressure on Braga as they have the fourth-best away record in division as aforementioned, picking up 27 points from 15 matches.
