Osasuna vs Sevilla Match Analysis & Prediction
26/01/2023 12:00 am
Sevilla will put their La Liga woes to the side when they travel to Osasuna for Thursday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final at Estadio El Sadar.
While the hosts knocked holders Real Betis out on penalties to reach this point, the visitors battled past Deportivo Alaves 1-0 to make it through to the last eight.
Osasuna will fear no opponent after denying Betis the chance to win back-to-back crowns, but they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by basement side Elche in Sunday’s La Liga contest.
Jagoba Arrasate’s side are aiming to reach the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey for the first time since 2004-05, where they finished as runners-up to Real Betis, and they have since suffered quarter-final exits in 2007 and 2010.
Still unbeaten since the turn of the year, Osasuna may even be considered by some as the favourites to secure a semi-final berth, but knockout specialists Sevilla are never to be counted out.
A solitary goal from Ivan Rakitic secured Sevilla’s place in the last eight of the Copa del Rey in a narrow last-16 victory over Deportivo Alaves, and the Croatian scored again in the weekend’s La Liga contest against Cadiz, netting the game’s only goal in a 1-0 win.
Jorge Sampaoli’s side are aiming to qualify for the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey for the second time in three season, having progressed to the final four in 2020-21 before losing to Barcelona.
With six victories from their last eight competitive matches across all competitions, Sevilla have claimed four of their Copa del Rey wins away from home so far this season, but they beat the visitors 2-1 in their opening La Liga game of the season back in August.
Osasuna vs. Sevilla Head to head
In the 45 previous meetings between these two sides across all competitions, Osasuna have claimed 13 victories while Sevilla have won 21, and they have drawn in 11. Sevilla have scored 58 goals and conceded 40 in the process.
