Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea Match Analysis & Prediction
01/01/2023 7:30 pm
Chelsea will be looking to boost their top-four hopes and begin 2023 with a victory when they travel to The City Ground to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on New Year’s Day.
While the hosts were beaten by Manchester United at Old Trafford last time out, the Blues claimed a confortable home win over Bournemouth.
Six days on from beating Blackburn Rovers 4-1 in the EFL Cup fourth round, Forest saw their four-game unbeaten run across all competitions ended when they lost 3-0 away to Manchester United on Tuesday.
While their away form has left a little to be desired, Steve Copper’s side have enjoyed more success on their home turf at the City Ground so far this season, collecting 11 of their 13 Premier League points on home soil.
Nottingham are unbeaten in their last four home league matches, with score draws against Aston Villa and Brentford alternating between hard-fought 1-0 victories over Liverpool and Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, Chelsea ended their four-game losing streak when they claimed a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
The Blues remain eighth in the Premier League standings, but Tottenham Hotspur’s draw with Brentford on Boxing Day means that Chelsea have moved to within six points of the London rivals in fourth place with a game in hand.
Graham Potter’s side struggled on the road in the final few weeks before the World Cup, losing each of their last three away matches and conceding seven goals in the process.
Chelsea have also failed to win their first league match in any of the last six calender years, but their record against Nottingham Forest at least bodes well ahead of Sunday’s contest. The Blues have actually won each of their last sevem encounters with the Tricky Trees, scoring at least twice on each occasion.
Nottingham Forest vs. Chelsea Head to head
These two teams have previously met on 70 occasions across all competitions, where Forest have claimed 21 victories while Chelsea have won 28, and they have drawn in 21. Chelsea have scored 90 goals and conceded 101 in the process.
