Norwich City vs Watford Match Analysis & Prediction

13/02/2024 10:45 pm

Both looking to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the second attempt, Norwich City and Watford will meet at Carrow Road on Tuesday night as the Championship playoff race intensifies.
The hosts managed a share of the spoils at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, while the visitors’ worrying run of form continued against Leicester City on the same day.
Following the FA Cup defeat to Liverpool at the end of January, Norwich have resumed Championship action in largely-impressive fashion, picking up four points from two matches against Coventry City and relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers.
Goals either side of the interval from Kenny McLean and Joshua Sargent cancelled out Jack Colback’s opener to hand the visiting Canaries a second-half lead on Saturday at Loftus Road, but a pair of January arrivals linked up for QPR to snatch a point, with Lucas Andersen assisting Michael Frey’s first goal in English football.
Losing just one of their last six matches in the Championship, Norwich remain on the coattails of the playoffs as the season approaches its business end, sitting in ninth position, two points behind sixth-placed Coventry City, who David Wagner’s side beat in their most recent Carrow Road encounter.
Watford’s mini-slump at the beginning of 2024 is on the verge of becoming something more concerning, with the Hornets now six matches without a victory across the Championship and the FA Cup following a 2-1 defeat to Premier League-bound Leicester on Saturday.
Having last tasted success in the Championship nearly a month ago in West London against QPR, Valerien Ismael has a real job on his hands in trying to guide this Watford crop into the top-six conversation, with Tuesday’s visitors sitting 11th, six points from sixth position.
Norwich City vs. Watford Head to head
In the 44 previous meetings between these two teams, Norwich have claimed 16 victorties while Watford have won 21, and they have drawn in seven. Watford have scored 66 goals and conceded 73 in the process.

Norwich City Team News
Norwich have potentially been dealt a major injury blow ahead of Tuesday’s contest, with leading goalscorer Jonathan Rowe sustaining a hamstring injury in the final stages of the game against QPR.
It is unclear when the attacker will be back in action, but it is likely that he will miss out here, meaning Christian Fassnacht should keep his place on the right flank.

Watford Team News
Despite finding the net against Leicester, Emmanuel Dennis is not yet ready for his second full debut as a Watford player – according to Ismael – who is set to start Mileta Rajovic in attack at Carrow Road.
Tom Dele-Bashiru operated at right-back against the Foxes and impressed his head coach, meaning the Nigerian could start in that unfamiliar role once again.
