Newcastle United vs Southampton Match Analysis & Prediction

Newcastle United will aim to complete the job when they welcome Southampton to St James’ Park for Tuesday’s second leg.
The Magpies have a 1-0 lead from the first leg, and a Joelinton strike gave them the upper hand at the halfway point in the tie.
Eddie Howe’s side is vying to meet Manchester United or Nottingham Forest – most likely the former – in the final.
Profligacy was the theme at St James’ Park as Newcastle failed to make their dominance count in their Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.
Lightning struck twice on the South coast as Bournemouth struggled to break down Brighton in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.
Joelinton missed an atrocious opportunity, but the Brazilian made up for it by tapping home from Alexander Isak’s low cross before Jacob Murphy gave Duje Caleta-Car an amusing farewell after being sent off.
Southampton overcame the odds to beat Blackpool 2-1 on Saturday and book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup, with left-back Romain Perraud scoring twice.
Perraud opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick before adding another just before half-time. Arsenal loanee Charlie Patino pulled one back for Blackpool, but Southampton held on for the win.
The Saints are now aiming to become just the third team in EFL Cup history to reach the final after losing their first leg at home after Stoke City’s winners of 1972 and Arsenal’s victors of 1987 both did so.

Newcastle United Team News
Newcastle has no new injury or suspension concerns ahead of Tuesday’s second leg, so Howe should be able to field the same starting XI. However, Isak continues to knock on the door and could feature after playing a key role in Joelinton’s winner last week.
