Napoli vs Cremonese Match Analysis & Prediction

17/01/2023 11:00 pm
Having taken one huge stride towards the title last week, Napoli are in search of an historic double on Tuesday, when they play host to Cremonese in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia.
While the hosts lead by nine points at Serie A’s halfway stage following a 5-1 victory over Juventus, the visitors lost again at the weekend and remain at the bottom of the table.
After Napoli’s victory over Juventus, AC Milan missed the chance to cut their deficit back down to seven points after they were held by Lecce, so the leaders have a significant advantage heading into the second half of the season.
Due to their continental commitments, Napoli were spared participation in the cup’s earlier rounds, but now hope to make a better attempt at lifting the trophy again than last year, when they exited in the last 16 to Fiorentina following a 5-2 home defeat.
Cremonese have already been beaten 4-1 at Stadio Giovanni Zini by Napoli in early October, and they must now arrive at Naples perhaps fearing an even worse fate.
The Grigiorossi have been enduring a terrible time in Serie A since their promotion back to the top flight after more than two decades away.
Head coach Massimiliano Alvini appears to be on borrowed time following Saturday”s defeat to fellow promoted club Monza, when Cremonese trailed 3-0 before the hour mark, with late goals from Daniel Ciofani and Cyriel Dessers added some respectability to the scoreline in a 3-2 loss.
As a result of their sixth home defeat of the season, Cremonese are not only yet to win a single Serie A game this season, but they also sit eight points adrift of the safety of 20th place.
Set for a tough relegation battle between now and June, Cremonese – who have never before won the Coppa Italia – can at least play without pressure on Tuesday.
Napoli vs. Cremonese Head to head
In the previous 10 meetings between these two teams, Napoli have claimed four victories while Cremonese have won two and they have drawn in four. Cremonese have scored 12 goals and conceded 14 in the process.
