Moreirense vs Sporting Lisbon Match Analysis & Prediction
05/12/2024 11:15 pm
Moreirense aim to continue Sporting Lisbon’s post-Ruben Amorim woes when they host the Primeira Liga leaders in Wednesday’s round 13 match at Parque Desportivo Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas.
The Lions lost their unblemished Primeira Liga record in a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Santa Clara, but they seek a response against the division’s eighth-placed side.
Despite losing to a seemingly resurgent Rio Ave side under new manager Petit last time out, returning to their turf should fill Moreirense players and fans with optimism before hosting the division’s leaders.
Cesar Peixoto’s side are unbeaten in front of their supporters, securing three wins over Arouca (3-1), Santa Clara (1-0) and Gil Vicente (3-2) and playing out two draws against Benfica (1-1) and Famalicao (0-0).
With Sporting losing at the weekend in Lisbon, Moreirense are one of four teams to remain unbeaten on home soil this season, an achievement shared with Porto, Benfica and Rio Ave.
It will be interesting to see Sporting’s response to back-to-back losses at Estadio Jose Alvalade when they travel to a side they have historically dominated.
Saturday’s defeat at the Alvalade was Sporting’s first Liga loss on home soil since February 2023 (2-1 to Porto) and first in the top flight since a 3-2 away loss at Vitoria Guimaraes in December 2023.
Sporting, whose lead atop the table was cut to three after Porto beat Casa Pia on Monday, last lost back-to-back league matches in August 2022, suffering a 3-0 defeat at the Dragao and losing at home to Chaves (2-0), and they aim to avoid a repeat in Minho.
Moreirense vs. Sporting Lisbon Head to head
