Montpellier vs PSG Match Analysis & Prediction

Looking to put an end to a three-game winless run in Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain travel to the Stade de la Mosson-Mondial 98 to face Montpellier on Sunday night.
The visitors have played draws in their last three matches in the top flight, while Michel Der Zakarian’s side put another dent in Nice’s European aspirations last weekend.
Such is the congested nature of the Ligue 1 standings that only six points separate second-bottom Metz and 11th-placed Toulouse, with Montpellier languishing in the middle of the bottom half and firmly involved in the relegation battle.
However, Montpellier enter this contest with their heads held high, having become the latest team to capitalise on Nice’s downfall with a 2-1 victory at the Allianz Riviera through a Jean-Clair Todibo own goal and Teji Savanier spot kick either side of Jeremier Boga’s equaliser.
Boasting seven points from their last four Ligue 1 matches, Montpellier are sitting in 13th position in the table, although with just a one-point gap to Nantes in the relegation playoff spot.
Meanwhile, PSG make the long trip south on the back of three straight draws in the top flight, sharing the spoils with Rennes, Monaco and most recently Reims, where there was another twist to the Kylian Mbappe selection saga.
With closest challengers Brest losing to Lens last weekend, Luis Enrique’s side boast an unassailable 10-point advantage at the top of the Ligue 1 standings and are now Coupe de France semi-finalists, having beaten Nice 3-1 in Wednesday’s quarter-final.
PSG will be looking to avoid their longest winless run in a single Ligue 1 season since a streak of four in May 2018, but their head-to-head with Montpellier makes for highly pleasant reading.
