Manchester United vs Manchester City Match Analysis & Prediction

The 189th Manchester derby takes place at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon when Manchester United play host to rivals Manchester City in a Premier League showdown.
Erik ten Hag has steered his side on an impressive run of form, losing just one of their last 18 competitive matches – a 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa in early November – and they have won all six games since the World Cup break.
Manchester United secured their place in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup through a 3-0 home victory over Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night, with Marcus Rashford (2) and Antony both on the scoresheet.
The Red Devils, who currently sit fourth in the Premier League table and level on points with Newcastle United in third, have picked up more points (35) than any other team since and including their 2-1 victory over Liverpool on August 22, winning 11 of their 15 matches during that period.
Manchester United’s overall form and recent run at Old Trafford bodes well ahead of this contest, as they have won nine consecutive matches on home soil and have kept seven clean sheets in the process.
After beating Chelsea 4-0 in the FA Cup third round last weekend, many would have expected a comfortable win for Manchester City against Premier League basement side Southampton in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
However, the Citizens lost 2-0 to the Saints and failed to register a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes for the first time in 275 matches since a 3-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool in April 2018.
Pep Guardiola’s side have seen their impeccably high standards slip slightly in recent months, dropping eight points from as many league matches, while they have also failed to score in four of their last seven away games across all competitions.
However, Manchester City will relish a derby-day trip to Manchester United having won nine of their last 14 visits to Old Trafford across all competitions since and including their remarkable 6-1 league victory in October 2011.
Manchester United vs. Manchester City Head to head
In the previous 165 meetings between these two sides across all competitions, Manchester United have claimed 65 victories while Manchester City have won 52, and they have drawn in 48. City have scored 233 goals and conceded 230 in the process.

Manchester City will be without Ruben Dias due to a hamstring injury, while fellow centre-back John Stones should recover in time to start at Old Trafford.
Stones’ inclusion could see Kyle Walker return to right-back after starting as a central defender against Southampton, with Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri expected to return to centre-midfield.
