Mallorca vs Athletic Bilbao Match Analysis & Prediction

01/05/2023 8:00 pm

Top-six hopefuls Athletic Bilbao will be looking to return to winning ways in La Liga when they continue their domestic campaign away to Mallorca on Monday night.
The visitors are currently seventh in the table, three points behind sixth-placed Real Betis, while Mallorca sit 12th, nine points clear of the relegation zone.
Mallorca saw their four-game unbeaten run in the league come to an end on Wednesday when they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Los Bermellones have picked up 25 points from their 15 home league matches this season, but they will be facing an Athletic side with the fifth-best away record, collecting 22 points from 15 games.
Javier Aguirre’s side are unbeaten in their last two matches against Athletic, including a goalless draw earlier this season at San Mames, while they secured a 3-2 victory over the Basque outfit on home soil in the previous campaign.
Athletic have their eyes on a top-six finish entering the final straight, with the Lions currently seventh in the table.
The Lions won four of their five league matches between March 17 and April 22, remaining unbeaten in the process, but they suffered a 1-0 home defeat to an improving Sevilla on Thursday.
Erbesto Valvarde’s side will actually welcome Real Betis in their next game after this one on May 4, which could be a crucial affair, particularly as it comes ahead of a trip to fifth-placed Villarreal on May 13.
Mallorca vs. Athletic Bilbao Head to head
In the 41 previous meetings between these two teams, Mallorca have claimed 14 victories while Athletic have won 18, and they have drawn in nine. Athletic have scored 57 goals and conceded 51 in the process.
