California rivals Los Angeles FC and the San Jose Earthquakes will battle for a spot in the Leagues Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday at BMO Stadium.
The Black and Gold progressed to the round of 16 through a 2-0 victory over Austin FC, while the Quakes thrashed Necaxa 5-0.
Steve Cherundolo’s side have never lost a Leagues Cup match in Los Angeles, winning all of their knockout stage games played at BMO Stadium last season by a combined scoreline of 11-1.
Their round-of-32 triumph ended their three-game winless run for them across all competitions at BMO Field against Major League Soccer opponents.
Los Angeles only dropped four points in the 2024 MLS regular season when scoring the opening goal, with that solitary defeat coming in Commerce City against the Colorado Rapids in late March (3-2).
