Livingston vs Dundee United Match Analysis & Prediction
18/01/2023 10:45 pm
Livingston play host to relegation-threatened Dundee United at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Wednesday in the latest round of the Scottish Premiership fixtures.
While the hosts occupy the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round spot, the visitors remain above the relegation playoff place at the opposite end of the table on only goal difference.
Livingston concluded the first phase of the 2021-22 season in eighth place but culminated their footballing campaign by finishing at the summit of the relegation group.
David Martindale’s side currently occupy fourth place in the latest standings and will want to build on their current four-game unbeaten league run on Wednesday.
Despite scoring the fourth-lowest number of goals this season (24), Livingston had no trouble beating St Johnstone last weekend through a set of braces from Stephen Kelly and James Penrice.
Compared to their midweek hosts, Dundee United have struggled so far this season in the wake of finishing fourth after the completion of last season’s first phase.
The Terrors have conceded a joint-high number of goals in the Premiership this season (37), but have commenced a footballing mini-revival in the last couple of weeks after picking up a morale-boosting eight points from their previous five matches.
Liam Fox’s side began their recent resurgence with back-to-back league victories over 10-man Ross County in their final game of 2022 before following that success five days later with a narrow 1-0 win over St Johnstone.
Despite losing 2-0 at home to Rangers on January 8, Dundee United got back on track on Saturday as Kevin Nisbet’s 92nd-minute goal denied the visitors all three points against Hibernian at Easter Road.
At the risk of dropping out of the Scottish top tier for the first time since 2020, Dundee United will hope to improve on their disappointing record of just one away league victory across 10 matches on their midweek trip to West Lothian.

Dundee United Team News
Inseparable at the top of the Dundee United’s goalscoring charts alongside Dylan Levitt, Steven Fletcher will be responsible for firing the visitors to victory, supported by Glenn Middleton and Ian Harkes.
After not being involved against Hibernian, Levitt could return to the matchday squad but might have to settle for a spot on the substitutes’ bench.
