Lincoln City vs Accrington Stanley Match Analysis & Prediction
10/01/2023 10:00 pm
Lincoln City and Accrington Stanley will face it off for a spot in the EFL Trophy semi-finals when they meet at the LNER Stadium on Tuesday.
While the hosts are winless in five matches across all competitions, Accrington have failed to win any of their last four games.
Lincoln will hope to return to winning ways in the EFL Trophy following a poor run of form in League One, where they have gone six matches without victory.
As a result of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic, Lincoln have failed to win any of their last five competitive matches since beating Everton U21 in the previous round of this competition.
The Imps won their group to set up the last 16, where they came from 2-1 down to defeat the Everton youngsters 4-1, securing their spot in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, the EFL Trophy may have come as a welcome distraction for Accrington, who are currently languishing in the League One relegation zone.
Stanley have only won one of their last 12 league matches, and the mood in the dressing room would not have been improved by Saturday’s 1-1 draw against National League outfit Boreham Wood in the FA Cup.
That stalemate with Boreham Wood extended Accrington’s winless run to four matches across all competitions, although they did avoid a third successive defeat.
They will now turn their attention to the EFL Trophy, and the visitors can take inspiration from an unbeaten four-game run in head-to-head matches with Lincoln – split evenly with two wins and two draws – although a repeat of the 1-1 scoreline from November’s league encounter would send the tie to penalties.
