Lille vs Angers Match Analysis & Prediction

13/11/2022 12:00 am

On Sunday, in-form Lille play bottom club Angers at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in the penultimate Ligue 1 fixture before the World Cup break. The visitors saw their losing streak extended to six games as they fell 2-1 to Lens last weekend; however, the hosts were held 0-0 by Rennes.
After a rough start to the season under new manager Paulo Fonseca, Lille have been playing excellent football over the last month.
Despite their recent losses against Lyon and Rennes, their playmaking has been impressive, with midfielder Remy Cabella averaging three key passes per game and Jonathan David managing eight shots on goal in those contests.
The stellar play of these two players has helped Lille move up from ninth place to fourth, just four points behind Marseille.
Angers, meanwhile, have endured a miserable few weeks, losing all of their last six games by an aggregate score of 15-6.
With so many key players having left the club over the summer, including Mohamed-Ali Cho, Angelo Fulgini and Enzo Ebosse, Le SCO have struggled to put together any kind of consistency.
They’ve lost 10 of their 14 league games so far this season, but they’ve also lost key duels against fellow strugglers Brest and Strasbourg—and they’ve been unable to make the most of home advantage in both those ties.
Lille vs. Angers Head to head
Both sides have 14 games against each other with the hosts taking four wins while the visitors with six wins, with four games ending in a draw.

The hosts will be without marauding full-back Ismaily for this one, as the Brazilian continues to recover from a thigh injury. The 19-year-old Timothy Weah could be asked to step into the left-back spot, as Jonathan Bamba should join David, Cabella and Adam Ounas up top.

Meanwhile, Angers will miss a couple of key players in attack, including the talented Boufal who is likely to be sidelined with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, forward Lois Diony’s anterior cruciate ligament tear should keep him out for the majority of the season.
