Leeds United vs Middlesbrough Match Analysis & Prediction
10/12/2024 11:00 pm
In a game that could have ramifications on both the battle for promotion and the battle for the title, Leeds United welcome Middlesbrough to Elland Road on Tuesday night in their 20th Championship match of the season.
Leeds are second and occupy one of two automatic promotion spots with 38 points and beat Derby County 2-0 on Saturday, while the visitors are fifth with 31 points and drew 1-1 with third-placed Burnley on Friday.
Daniel Farke’s side were dominant at both ends of the pitch against Derby, registering 18 shots and 10 efforts from inside the penalty area, while the Rams produced just three shots, two of which were in the box.
The Whites have scored 33 goals and conceded 13 times in the second tier, and of the 24 teams in the division, these returns make them the league’s joint-best offensive and third-best defensive club.
Leeds are in excellent form having secured victory in four of their past five matches, and they have in fact lost just twice in their last 14 games, winning nine in that period.
Farke’s side have been phenomenal at home this season considering they have prevailed in each of their seven most recent matches at Elland Road, keeping six clean sheets and conceding just once.
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough come into the contest having arguably outplayed Burnley last time out given they created two big chances while having prevented the Clarets from producing any big chances of their own.
Michael Carrick’s side have experienced an impressive upturn in form given they had lost four, drawn two and won four of their first 10 league matches, but have since won five, drawn two and lost two.
Middlesbrough have won four of their past six Championship matches, scoring on 19 occasions, but they did fail to keep a clean sheet in that time.
Carrick’s side are unbeaten in their four most recent matches away from home, and though they scored 14 goals in those games, they did concede seven times.
