Lazio vs Lecce Match Analysis & Prediction

12/05/2023 9:45 pm

Lazio will be looking to recalim second place in the Serie A standings when relegation-threatened Lecce visit the Stadio Olimpico on Friday night.
With four matches remaining, the hosts find themselves three points inside the top four, while the visitors sit four points clear of the relegation zone.
Lazio appeared destined to finish as runners-up to newly-crowned champions Napoli through a run of one defeat in 14 Serie A matches between January and April, with seven victories coming in the final eight games of the sequence.
However, Maurizio Sarri’s side have surrendered secod place to Juventus following a run of three defeats in four games, meaning that they are looking over their shoulders as the race for Champions League football heats up.
After suffering back-to-back defeats to Torino and Inter Milan, Lazio claimed a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo before returning to losing ways at the weekend, losing 2-0 to AC Milan at the San Siro.
Lazio will still be confident of getting back on track when struggling Lecce visit the Stadio Olimpico, as the Eagles have won four of their last five home league matches, keeping three clean sheets in the process.
Having lost just two of their previous 10 home matches in Serie A – picking up 20 points from a possible 30 during that period – Lazio will fancy themselves of returning to winning ways and reignite their top-four charge.
Lecce head into Friday’s contest having lost three of their last four matches, with a 2-0 defeat at AC Milan preceding back-to-back losses against Juventus and Hellas Verona.
Marco Baroni’s side remain just four points clear of the relegation zone with four matches remaining, meaning that an immediate return to Serie B is a real possibility.
Not only ave Lecce lost three of their last four league matches, but they have also lost nine of their previous 11, picking up a single victory along the way.
Looking at the bigger picture, the Wolves have managed to win just seven of their 34 Serie A matches this season, while only bottom-placed Sampdoria have scored fewer goals than Lecce’s 28.
Baroni’s side have also lost each of their last five away matches while scoring a solitary goal, so they will struggle to enhance their chances of survival at the Stadio Olimpico, regardless of Lazio’s recent downturn.
