26/02/2024 5:00 am
The opening matchday of the 2024 MLS regular season concludes on Monday morning, with Inter Miami taking the trip to Dignity Health Sports Park to take Los Angeles Galaxy.
In 2023 the Galaxy missed the playoffs for the thirf time in the las four seasons, while the Herons began the new campaign with a 2-0 victory over the Real Salt Lake.
The 2024 campaign could be a make-or -break one for Greg Vanney, who guided Toronto to the MLS Cup in 2017 but has not enjoyed much success in LA, losing at least a dozen regular season matches in each of his three years in charge.
In 2023, the LA Galaxy were a mess defensively, conceding a league-high 67 goals, eight more than the next closest teams in MLS (Toronto).
Their only two domestic victories last season against Eastern Conference opponents came at Dignity Healths Sports Park, beating the Philadelphia Union in July (3-1) and the Chicago Fire (3-0) just over a month later.
Meanwhile, Inter Miami began 2024 Major League Soccer campaign on the right foot, ending a six -game winless run in this competition on Thursday.
Tata Martino’s side held Real Salt Lake to just two efforts on target, picking up their first clean sheet since September 2023 (4-0 win over Torornto).
Inter Miami won just three away matches in this competition a year ago, although their last one was in Califronia against the Los Angeles FC in early September (3-1).
The Herons conceded three or more goals on the road five times in this competition a year ago while giving up multiple strikes on eight occasions.
Martino’s side have gone on to win their last 11 MLS matches when leading at the break, a run that dates all the way back to August 2020.
