Kilmarnock vs Celtic Match Analysis & Prediction
15/05/2024 9:30 pm
On the verge of securing their third straight league title, league leaders Celtic make the trip to the BBSP Stadium Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.
Kilmarnock’s win over St Mirren last time out secured a spot in the Europa League for next season, while the Hoops claimed an Old Firm derby victory against Rangers.
After picking up just a single point from their opening two league matches since the post-season split, Kilmarnock achieved a significant feat through their 1-0 victory at St Mirren – one which would see them enjoy at least two games on the continental stage.
Kyle Vassell’s emphatic finish against St Mirren was enough to secure a spot in the second round of Europa League qualifying this summer, meaning that Kilmarnock could be one of the first sides to play in the tournament’s revamped league phase.
Heading into the second-last game of the Premiership season, Derek McInnes’ side are occupying fourth position in the league standings, 11 points behind third-placed Hearts but nine ahead of St Mirren in fifth.
Assuming the role as talisman for Brendan Rodgers’s side this season, Matt O’Riley was on hand to give his team the lead against Rangers and three minutes later John Lundstram netted an own goal, rendering Cyriel Dessers’ strike a mere consolation for the visitors at Parkhead.
Fast approaching their final away game of the Premiership campaign, Celtic are in commanding position as they look to retain the Scottish title, with the Bhoys six points ahead of Rangers in second with just two games left to play.
Celtic could have first place wrapped up without even kicking a ball this week, with Rangers requiring a win over sixth-placed Dundee on Tuesday night to keep their faint hopes of winning the division alive for another 24 hours at least.

In the previous 107 meetings between these two teams, Kilmarnock have claimed 10 victories while Celtic have won 77, and they have drawn in 20. Celtic have scored 243 goals and conceded 69 in the process.
