Looking to halt a concerning losing run, out-of-form Kelty Hearts play host to promotion-chasing Alloa Athletic at the New Central Park in the Scottish League One on Tuesday night.
The Hearts’ losing run in the league extended to five matches on Saturday at home against Cove Rangers, who returned home with maximum points to boost their promotion efforts through a second-half goal from Mitchell Megginson.
Since Valentine’s Day, Kelty Hearts have failed to collect a single point in the league, scoring on just two occasions and failing to net in four straight matches following the six-goal thriller at Montrose on February 17.
After possessing a 16-point gap over the relegation spots at the end of last season during their maiden campaign back at this level, Kelty’s League One status is under greater threat this time around, with the Hearts currently sixth but just four points ahead of ninth-placed Annan Athletic.
Michael Tidser’s side have collected just 15 of their 31 league points on home soil this season, but Kelty’s most-recent victory came at New Central Park on February 13, when a Joe McGlynn brace helped the hosts beat bottom-placed Edinburgh.
Securing their biggest win of the season in terms of scoreline on Saturday, Alloa Athletic kept the top-three chasing pack at bay with a 5-2 victory over bottom-placed Edinburgh, although it was not the routine success that the majority of the visiting fans were anticipating.
First-half goals from Malik Zaid and Frankie Deane allowed the hosts to take a surprise lead into the halftime break, but the Wasps rallied in the second period to deny City a first win since November, confirming Michael McIndoe’s side’s relegation to the fourth tier of Scottish football.
After failing to escape into the Scottish Championship through the playoffs last season, Alloa will be hoping for a different result this time around, with Tuesday’s visitors currently occupying third place in the League One standings, four points ahead of fifth-placed Cove Rangers.
Kelty Hearts vs. Alloa Athletic Head to head
In the seven previous meetings between these two teams, Kelty have claimed one victory while Alloa have won four, and they have drawn in two. Alloa have scored 12 goals and conceded five in the process.
