Hull City vs Birmingham City Match Analysis & Prediction
05/03/2024 10:45 pm
In a match between two sides at opposite ends of the Championship standings, playoff hopefuls Hull City will play host to relegation-threatened Birmingham City at the MKM Stadium on Tuesday night.
A victory at Deepdale against Preston North End on Saturday would have made it five straight away wins for Hull for the first time since 1966, but the Tigers were only able to grab a point in a goalless draw.
Three successive wins over Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town and Southampton meant that Hull burst into the playoff spots, while back-to-back draws against West Bromwich Albion and Preston since have allowed the Tigers to maintain control of the chasing pack.
With the visit of Leicester City scheduled for Saturday, Liam Rosenior’s side will be fully aware of how important Tuesday’s game is for their promotion dreams, with the Tigers currently just a point ahead of seventh-placed Norwich City.
Meanwhile, Birmingham were the victims of a last-gasp winner from Southampton substitute Joe Aribo at the weekend, as Blues’ record under the interim leadership of Mark Venus extended to back-to-back defeats, leaving the Second City club in a full-scale relegation battle.
With Stoke City, Queens Park Rangers and Millwall all collecting maximum points on Saturday, Birmingham are level on points with 21st-placed Huddersfield and 22nd-placed Potter, despite sitting in 20th place, although Blues have played a game fewer than all of their relegation rivals at this stage of the campaign.
Blues would be in even graver danger of Championship football if the league table was determined purely on away results, with Venus’ side collecting just 11 points from 17 league matches so far.

Birmingham City Team News
Birmingham have ran into serious selection problems at centre-back after Dion Sanderson’s sending off at the weekend, paired with injuries to Krystian Bielik and Marc Roberts.
Although the latter could return in time for Tuesday’s match, Blues could have to field a defensive duo of Emanuel Aiwu and right-back Cody Drameh.
