Huddersfield Town vs Rotherham United Match Analysis & Prediction
29/12/2022 10:45 pm
Huddersfield Town play host to Rotherham United at the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday looking for the win that could see them move off the bottom of the Championship standings.
On the other hand, 19th-placed Rotherham now sit just five points above their next opponents, a consequence of four matches without a victory.
With Huddersfield sitting so long in the bottom three and in last spot, there has bee scope for the Terriers’ hierarchy making a decision to have a change of heart over Mark Fotheringham.
However, Huddersfield are coming up with victories against the odds, the latest occasion coming on Boxing Day, as they came from behind to claim a 2-1 win at Preston North End.
The Terriers have failed to score in their last three matches at the John Smith’s Stadium, but it has now been 12 matches since they conceded more than twice in a sigle game home or away.
That highlights the foundation that has been laid under Fotheringham, who will feel that a better return in the final thid will lead to his side making headway up the table.
At one stage, it appeared that Rotherham would have different ambitions to a team who have gone from 2022 playoff finalists to favourites to be relegated.
However, they have now won just once in 10 matches, not helped twice by twice letting slip a lead against Stoke City on Boxing Day before recording a 2-2 draw.
While Matt Taylor may have accepted a stalemate before the game, it was a disappointing outcome, and Rotherham have now conceded eight times in three matches.
With Huddersfield possessing the chance to move within two points of his side in the table, Taylor is well aware of the importance of this game, one that could make or break their campaign even at this relatively early stage.

Huddersfield Town Team News
Fotheringham could decide to name the same Huddersfield XI, despite Brahima Diarra coming off the substitutes’ bench to help instigate the turnaround at Preston.
If he was to be handed just a third start of the season, then either Jack Rudoni or Duane Holmes would likely drop down to the substitutes’ bench.
