Houston Dynamo vs Portland Timbers Match Analysis & Prediction

17/03/2024 3:30 am

Looking to secure their first victory of the new league season, Houston Dynamo will host an unbeaten Portland Timbers side at the Shell Energy Stadium on Monday morning in MLS.
The Dynamo were eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup by Columbus Crew in the week, while the Timbers have been afforded a full seven days to bask in their glory at New York City FC last time out.
Houston Dynamo have endured a tricky start to the 2024 season, drawing on the opening day to Sporting Kansas City at Shell Energy Stadium before suffering a 2-1 defeat to New York Red Bulls, despite the Dynamo taking the lead through Ibrahim Aliyu.
The Dynamo’s failure to win any of their first two matches at their Texas base this season in contradictory to their sensational home form in 2023, when Ben Olsen’s side won 11 and collected 37 points from 17 regular term matches at Shell Egergy Stadium, meaning that they boasted the best home record in the Western Conference.
After failing to guide Lionel Messi and Inter Miami to the MLS post-season in 2023, Phil Neville has relished in an unbeaten start to life as Portland Timbers manager, although it appeared as if the Englishman was heading towards his maiden loss in charge of the club last time out.
Followinf a dull first-half display in the Bronx, the Timbers found themselves one goal down following a Santiago Rodriguez strike, but the visitors produced an excellent comeback in the second period, with goals from Brazilian duo Antony and Evander Ferreira securing the three points.
Now facing successive away matches in MLS, Portland will be desperately looking to avoid a repeat of last year’s visit to Shell Energy Stadium in late August, when goals from the likes of Amine Bassi and Corey Baird helped Houston to a five-goal thrashing, handing the Timbers’ top-nine hopes a serious dent.
Houston Dynamo vs. Portland Timbers Head to head
In the 27 previous meetings between these two teams, Houston have claimed eight victories while Portland have won 10, and they have drawn in nine. Portland have scored 40 goals and conceded 41 in the process.
